Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell when I need a new roof?
Usually by performing a visual inspection to tell if your roof is worn, peeling, cracking or leaking, you will know you need a new roof. Often leaks appear inside the home as stains or discolorations on the ceiling.

Some other things to look for when inspecting your roof:

  • Missing, cracked or curling shingles
  • Blistering or peeling paint
  • Shingle, sheathing or siding decay
  • Leakage in the attic after heavy rains
  • Stains on interior walls or ceilings
  • High energy bills

If you think you may have a need for a new roof, have a professional inspection done. At Dennis Roofing, we offer free roofing inspections with estimates, up to a $150 value.

If I have a leak or damage to my roof, how do I know if I need a new roof or just a repair?
Basically, when you look at the roof and the majority of it looks to be in good condition you can probably get away with it being repaired. If you look at it and it looks worn or you know it is past its life expectancy, then you probably need a completely new roof.

How long should it take to replace a roof?
This is a very common question with a difficult answer. There is really no way to estimate the exact time a roof replacement will take, as every roof is different. In general, depending on the type of roof, the weather and the damage to the sheathing (panels beneath the current roof material, also called decking), this could take anywhere from a few days to two or more weeks.

Is there anything I can do about the mildew on my roof?
There are several ways to take care of the mildew on a roof. Some home improvement and hardware stores will carry cleaning products made for cleaning a roof that can be applied by a sprayer.

How often should I clean my gutters?
Cleaning your gutters depends on your foliage; the more leaves you have in your yard, the more often you will need to clean your gutters. A good rule of thumb is to clean them on the first day of summer, autumn and winter.
